1653
First emblem
In this year, Friar Cristóbal de Torres y Motones, the Spanish priest from the Dominican Order and devotee of the Most Holy Rosario, founded the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario with permission from the King of Spain and inherited the distinctive emblem of the Dominicans.
1909
Dionisio Renart
In 1909 the artist Dionisio Renart Garcia made the statue of the founder Friar Cristóbal de Torres and designed the University emblem based on the biography that the Rector Rafael M. Carrasquilla had given Garcia. However, he never warned that the emblem used was the Calatrava cross.
1936
By 1936, the Calatrava cross had substituted the symbol found on the inside of the previous emblem and is framed within the lambrequins designed by Dionisio de Renart.
2009
In this year, the Colombian graphic designer, Carlos Duque, proposed a new design without modifying the previous emblem and the typography became part of the logo. Currently, the emblem design is still the symbol of the Universidad del Rosario.
2013
In 2013, with the objective of reaching more young people and giving the Universidad del Rosario a more jovial and pleasant image, its typography was modernized.
2015
In 2015, with the help of a branding agency, the logo typography was worked on with the objective of making it more friendly and easy to understand, solving legibility issues. This font was established as the institutional typography.
2020
En el 2020 se efectuó el cambio de color en el logo al rojo vivo de la planta Mutisia clematis, la cual fue descubierta por José Celestino Mutis en la expedición que realizó al continente americano en el año de 1760.
